2018 Finishes - To Grandma's House - #44

Another local quilt shop block of the month program and the color way I chose 30's reproduction prints.   I got the blocks done during the 2011 year of the program, and then laid it on a shelf until this year.

I picked up the finishing fabric for sashing, corner posts, and borders late last year and finished it for the longarmer this spring.

Close up of the blocks.

I found a really nice pink backing that looks real nice with the prints on the front.

2018 Finishes - On Ringo Lake - #42

This quilt is another Bonnie Hunter annual mystery quilt.  This is the fourth year that I have participated in her mystery quilt programs.  They are free and happen every year between Thanksgiving and New Year's.

This is the second mystery quilt that I did in fabric lines from Fig Tree Quilts by Moda.  I have quite a collection of her lines, so I was able to have enough to do this mystery quilt again for the 2017 Mystery Quilt.  Progress posts of this quilt can be found here.

Every one of her quilts are quite large, this one is no exception at 75" X 90".

Close up of the block and quilting.  Notice the binding, I had to use both yellow and backing fabric in order to have enough to do the binding, just like the backing.

I did not have enough of the yellow to do the whole backing, so I included another color (background) as part of the backing.  I sewed it as opposite pieces and this is what it looks like.

2018 Finishes - Medallion Star - #41

Back in 2007, 2008, and 2009, I was participating in block of the months with two local quilt shops.  This is one from the other quilt shop, called Medallion Star.   All the fabric in this quilt is muted fall colored solids, no prints.   I got this started back in 2008, and because I really did not like it, I put it aside, and dug it out to finish this year.  After it was done, I liked it more than I originally thought.

This one is another square quilt, measuring 67"x67".  It has the medallion in the middle and falling oak leaves circling the star.   I posted a picture of this quilt in a comment line on Facebook where the person was asking for ideas for quilts that looked fall in color and design.  Someone else like it so much, she asked for the pattern.  Since I knew I would not be making it again, I stuck it in the mail for her to enjoy.

Close up of the center pattern.

Border, very subtle.

To bring in some prints in this top, I chose a very pretty floral that has all the colors from the front.

While I was binding this quilt at a trade show, a friend of ours asked if it was for sale.  I told her no, that I don't sell any of my quilts.  As soon as I finished this quilt, I packaged it up and gave it to her the next time I saw her at the trade show.

2018 Finishes - Alphabet Quilt - #40

This was an "extra" project that one could do while doing a block of the month with a local quilt shop.  This is called the Alphabet Quilt.   Inside the cover of the book the following is what this pattern is all about, it reads as follows:

"This book presents the appliqué patterns for the ALPHABET QUILT, by Florence LaGrande, published in the newspapers in 1929 and 1930 under the title of Nancy Page Quilt Club.

These ALPHABET Quilt patterns and the antiques crib quilt top were furnished by Cacilie Daily, owner of MISCELLANY (antique quilts and quilted gifts), Houston, Texas."

Phyllis Adkins Baxter has re-printed and packaged these designs under the "pan designs" label in 1988.

This is my version of the quilt pattern.  I chose 30's reproduction prints for the appliqué pictures, and a solid 30's yellow (Moda Bella Solid) for the sashing.

The next four pictures are of each quadrant, showing a close up of each block.

This is a close up of the cornerstones and sashing.

I found this wide backing, that was a tone on tone yellow perfect for this quilt.

2017 Finishes - Fat Quarter Shop 2013 Mystery Quilt - #38

This is one of the few Mystery Quilts that I have done from the Fat Quarter Shop.  This one was from 2013.  You can see about each block here, as I happened to blog about each one.  One of the few times I tracked each block on the blog.  I finally dug it out last year to do the sashing, and borders.

I guess you would call this a semi-row quilt, as each row has same theme all across the row.  Row 1 is baskets, row 2 is stars, row 3 is houses, and row 4 are supposed to be a flower block.

I have not done a border like this one before, I didn't think I would ever get the pieces done to make the pointed border.

The backing is matching to the front border, and the binding matches the pointed border.
