UFO Project #4

This is a really old Thimbleberries Quilt Club project that I have been working on for the last year.  I have the first wall hanging completed (including the quilting and the binding) and it is hung on a wall outside our bedroom.  Not a day goes by, that I don't stop and look at it and feel the quilting.  That's just a fact of how much I like quilts!  More about this one, Window Box, can be found here.  Then, recently, the end of 2013, I dragged out this quilt club collection and made the next one in the series,  called Garden Fare can be found here, and then the third one in the series, called Autumn Fare, can be found here.  I still have both hand quilting on Garden Fare, and machine quilting on Autumn Fare to get done, but I decided to get out the forth project, Winter Scape, and get started working on it.

Each project came quarterly, with three parts to each wall hanging.  Last night, I cut out part one of this one, and will be working on completing it over the next two to three weeks.  Stay tuned.

Newly Selected UFO BOM

I am still working through the many UFO BOM projects that I have acquired over the past 15 years or so, and have selected this one to work on over the next several months.

This is called "Quilt Block Sampler", having a total of 84 different blocks to complete the quilt top.  Not going to get bored working on this one, that's for sure.  That's why I stated I would be working on it for the next several months.  It is the kind of BOM that I can work in a block or two in between other projects, and still feel like I am accomplishing the goal of getting this one done.

This is a page out of 23 pages provided as the only direction on cutting out the block and completing the block.  The cutting directions are listed on the left, the completed block is in the middle, and the last picture on the left, is the break apart block, kinda giving direction on how to put the block together.  Most blocks are pieced, but there are a few that are to be paper pieced, and a couple appliquéd.

Here is the big sack, full of individual sacks, each one a block to this quilt, and not sure if you can really tell from the picture, but the fabric is civil war reproductions.  The company, Homestead Hearth, is where I purchased this program/project about 5 years ago.  I know they are not carrying this BOM any more, but they have over 30 BOM's to choose from at any given time, so I am sure you could find something very similar to this one.

I am including a picture of the finishing kit package, as the sack is representative of Homestead Hearth Quilt Shop.  I know where I received the BOM from, just by the packaging they use.  They have always used this paper pattern sack to ship all of their monthly programs out.  I think it is endearing the different ways quilt shop identify themselves to their customers.

Tortilla Warmes Complete

If you remember a couple of posts ago, I received a commissioned order for 26 tortilla warmers.  To complicate matters, I had to be out of town for several weeks, and could not work on this project.  I did have my sweet husband mail me the materials, and I was able to do some pre work by getting all the materials cut out.

I started working on making them this last week, and was completing them one by one, and realized, that I would be spending to much time doing it this way.  So I set up an assembly type line, and did each step of the process 52 times (top and bottom), and then the next steps I did each step 26 times until I did the last step completing them all at once.

Here is a picture of the "assembly line" of the pieces.

I am not endorsing this product, but if you can, get those red binder clips from Clover.  They have been a life saver in lining up the pieces in the assembly of these warmers.  They are so much easier to use than pins.  Worth every penny I paid for them.

So here is the picture of the finished product being shipped off today to the wonderful little boutique Mexican restaurant in Kansas City, MO!

Block-A-Palooza BOM Quilt Top

I have worked on this BOM off and on since 2011.  It was a online quilt along beginning 2011, and had a total of sixteen sampler blocks from various blog designers, with options of three finishings.  I chose the large appliquéd center block finishing instructions with all the sixteen blocks surrounding it.

Here is the completed quilt top, which measures approximately 60" X 90".  Yes it is a big quilt that I want to go on a queen bed in our guest room.  I may have to add some borders on the long sides to make it wider in order to fit the bed nicely.  I think the center appliqué will look really cool centered on the queen bed!

The next few pictures are close ups of the various blocks surrounding the centered appliqué block.

And now, here  are close up pics of each of the three appliquéd flowers.

This BOM was a complex project, and took time and effort to get it to this completion.  I really pushed myself to get this done, as it is done in one of my most favorite lines of fabrics - Sunkissed by Moda.  This is two of three projects that I am doing with this line of fabric.  You can see the other completed project here, using this fabric line.  The last project using this fabric line will be a real simple "Postage Stamp" pattern, which will lay folded simply at the end of the bed on top of this quilt, and will be a nice compliment to each other.

If you haven't guessed, the guest bedroom is my next big project on my to do list around the house.  It will be fun to work on painting, making curtains, and finishing these two quilts for the bed.  So much fun, and so little time. Smile!

Memorial Day

I don't mention it ofter, but my oldest son is in the Army going on 14 years now.  It is days like Memorial Day, that makes most Americans remember those who have served and sacrificed for our freedoms today.  We have so much to be thankful for, and owe it all the the past and present service members.  My son has done four deployments to various places in the middle east region, and there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think or pray for him.  Not just on days like Memorial Day.....

FQS Mystery Designer BOM - Block 12

I have been out of state for the past few weeks and have not been able to get any sewing done until today.  This block, the final block, was in my pile of mail when I returned home.  I cut it out and stitched it up this evening.

This end the 2013 club, and the 2014 will start in June.  The Fat Quarter Shop has this club every year, and I have participated for the past two years.  I am not going to do this year's club.  I need a break to do some catch up work on my older UFO BOM's!

This is block 12, and I have the finishing kit to get the top done.

All System's Go

Remember the prototype of the tortilla warmer that I made to see if the customer wanted to continue with the commissioned order?  Well, they received the prototype, and we are good to go with the whole order.  They really liked what the warmer looked like, so I will be making a total of 25 more.

12 more with this fabric:

13 using this fabric:

I will have to work on them towards the end of the month, as I am out of state for the next couple of weeks.

Stay tuned....

Jill's Quilt All Done

First off, sorry for the poor pictures, but I had to take some quick pics and it was in the evening.    I have completed Jills quilt, including the quilting.

This is the front of the quilt.

And here is the back folded up to show how awesome it just "fits" this quilt.  Jill is a professional trained decorator, and it shows in this quilt.

Because I had a little fabric left over, I opted to make a pillow using a checker board pattern, a split back opening, and the backing fabric for the back of the pillow.

This is a close up of the quilting I did on the pillow.

So, there you go, I have another commissioned project crossed off my list.
