2016 Finishes - Room by Room Autumn Retreat 05/08 - #15

During the 2006 - 2008 there were several Thimbleberries monthly clubs outside of the regular Thimbleberries BOM Club.   I started working on it back in 2013, you can read the posts about it here.   I finished the top, and put it away until the end of 2016, when I was able to send it off to my long arm quilter.

Here is a list of the clubs I participated in (purchasing a kit a month) during these two years.  With the exception of Anniversary Club, Christmas Clubs, and Cover Story Club, each lasted 12 months, with a kit coming in the mail each month.  60%- 70% of the kits were full sized quilts, with the rest being throws or wall hangings.  The Anniversary Club covered 24 months with a kit coming every other month.  Each of its kits were a full sized quilt, and backing included.  The Christmas Clubs were for six months, and the Cover Story Clubs were four months.

This is a lot of kits to complete.

2006 -             You're Invited Club
2006 -             Limited Edition Club
2006 -             Christmas Countdown
2006 - 2007 - Calendar Table Toppers Club
2007 -             Lynette's Favorites
2007 -             Cover Story I
2007 -             Countdown to Christmas
2007 - 2008 - Beginner's Luck
2008 -             Room By Room
2008 -             Cover Story II
2008 - 2010    Anniversary Club

Now onto this quilt.  It is a kit from the Room by Room Club for May, 2008.  The name of this quilt is called Autumn Retreat, and is a pattern in her BK 290, called Cranberry Harvest.

This is a over-sized twin quilt done in alternating block patterns with a flying geese inner border.

One of the two block patterns.

The other one of the two block pattern.

Backing fabric that matches the fabric in one of the blocks.  I found enough of it online through eBay.

Right now, it is going into my finished collection.  I don't have any specific plans for it.  When I do, I will be sure to share.

UFO Project Top Completed

Yep, another UFO project bites the dust, meaning it is completed.  Well, at least the top is completed.  I had a short break today, in overcast Oregon, to hang the finished top on the fence outside.  The top finished out to be about 70" X 87".  Remember I did three extra center blocks, to make the quilt more for a twin bed, rather than be just a big square quilt.

I brought the finished top back inside and laid it on my cutting table (folded) and took a couple of close up pictures.

I really like the thin green border, and if I would have thought about it, I would have put one on the other side of the flying geese, but I just followed the pattern and it only called for one.  (Sigh)

UFO Project Progress

A few posts back, I did a post about a UFO project, here.  I have made some progress.  I have put together the blocks, and the first 1" border within this last week.

Then, this evening, after being at a gun show all day, I sat down and was able to de-stress by getting some "sew time" in working some more on this UFO project.  Remember,  I need to make 100+ flying geese, which will be the second border.  So, I sewed 25 of them, made them into a strip, and sewed it to the top.  Only three more sides to go!

This is a nice project to be working on, because the flying geese pieces are all cut out, and I can work on it whenever I have a couple of free minutes, and that doesn't require any deep concentration.  Everyone should have few of these type "no-brainer" sew time projects to work on when they have short periods of time.
