Older Project Revealed

Ok, here is the "big" reveal of the older project that I posted about yesterday.  A nice Christmas table runner!

It was the first project from a Thimbleberries club I did back in 2006.  Yeah, you read that right, 2006!  I discovered Lynette Jensen, and her "Thimbleberries" beginning 1998.  There was a point in time when I just had to have everything she came out with through her company, including books, patterns, and fabric.  Then I discovered the Main Street Cotton Shop.....they had everything Thimbleberries, including clubs and her annual BOM (sometimes in two color ways).  I don't mean to ramble, but it kinda is the lead in to this post.

This table runner is from a Main Street Cotton Shop called Christmas Countdown Club 2006.  This book was based on Lynette's new book at the time called "Christmas Countdown.  The Main Street Cotton Shop put together a 6-month club from July 2006 to December 2006.  This is a picture of her book.

This is a really bad picture (the one I took not the publisher's picture) of the table runner inside the book.

Here is a close up of the quilting I did for the runner.  I did shadow quilting around the appliquéd stars on the green prints, spiraling inside each red triangle, and cross-hatching on all the light background print areas.

Here is a close up of the binding.  I am only showing you this because I learned how to sew on the binding by machine.  Usually, I machine stitch the binding on the right side, then hand stitch it down on the back side of the item.  But, looking through Pinterest the other day, I saw how to machine sew it down on the back side and make it look nice on the front side.  I was tickled pink on how it came out!

This is the table runner folded up next to the book.  It shows how thin it folds up, and that is because I did such intense quilting on the runner.  I use poly batting (cheaper) for table runners, but it has a higher loft.  So, to get it to lay flat and be thin enough to set things on so that they're not wobbly, I do this kind of close quilting.

Here is the back side of the table runner with the label.  Thimbleberries even had matching quilt labels to go with their projects.

Just for kicks, I took a picture of the label the Main Street Cotton Shop sent with the kit.  Before the blog, I used to keep these kinds of things for the scrapbook/record of the projects I completed.  I think I used to like doing the record keeping of the projects as much as making them.  Weird, huh?

LQS BOM last blocks

These are my last blocks for my LQC BOM program. The 30's colorway is the program block and the Asian print is the alternate colorway I am doing. Now I get to plan a way to put them together for a top.

LQS Blocks July

I worked on these Wednesday, but I had more to post about and decided to spread it all out over a couple of day's posts. Again these are my monthly local quilt club blocks, the 30's prints as the club block, and the Asian print in the alternative block.

If you notice, the Asian print block looks different. I cut the prints opposite for two of the prints causing it to have a totally different look even though it is the same patterned block. I liked the. Way it turned out, so I am going to leave it like this for the quilt.

Like I said in yesterday's post, I was back at working on my monthly blocks. Here are my LQS blocks for June.

Show and Tell

I had found this in the flurry of moving and re-arranging my sewing room some more this week, as a project I had done last spring. You might recongize the pattern from Crabapple Hill. I am a big fan of their embroidery patterns.

I went to my monthly quilt club today and they have a portion of the time for show and tell. So, I took this in and "showed" it off. I need to get it stuffed and find a nice spot for it.

LQS May's Blocks

At least I am caught up on a couple of projects. These are blocks from a monthly club at my local quilt shop. The first block is the program's block and the other is the alternate color way in asian prints.

There are only three more blocks for this program, as the shop owner runs it from September to August each year. I'm getting excited to get these put together to see how they are going to look!

LQS blocks #8 & 9

In an earlier post, I talked about a quilt club that I attend once a month at my local quilt shop. And, you might remember an earlier post listing the things I was behind on.

Well, I am happy to say I have gotten the club blocks done for the last two months and the two alternate colorway blocks done!

Behind!

I missed my LQS club last month, it snowed, and I don't drive in the snow. That's another whole story for a later post. So, I went yesterday, and picked up what I missed last month and the current block.

When I got home, I laid it all out (pictured below) and realized I am way behind. Normally it would only be one missed block and the current block. But....I am doing an alternate block, the extra embroidery project (which is two blocks a month), and a mystery quilt section per month.

So how far behind am I?

Regular Club Block - 2 blocks

Alternate Block - 2 blocks

Embroidery Blocks - 6 blocks (ha! I didn't get the month before the month missed done yet)

Mystery Quilt Blocks - 3 sections (again I didn't get the month before the month missed done)

Total Blocks = 13+ depending on the amount of pieces/blocke for the mystery quilt sections.

Yikes!!!!

Oh well, my list is always ever ending, ever changing, and ever blissful! Wouldn't have it any other way.....

Mystery Quilt

The monthly quilt club that I participate in at my local quilt shop also has a mystery quilt that we can do if we chose. I have done only one in the past, so I decided to do one this year. Three months into the year of the sampler quilt, they start a mystery quilt that lasts for six months.

This is the first month's part - 48 pieces.

This is the second month's part - 96 pieces of the piece on the right and 48 pieces of the piece on the left.
The piece on the right has three parts, and the piece in the left has five pieces.

For this mystery quilt, I chose Christmas fabric, partly because it was on sale, and partly because I have never mad a Christmas quilt and thought it was about time I did!

I will keep you posted on progress and reveal the final result.

PS - to my first followers, I have a giveaway planned for you next week. Nothing fancy, but just a show of appreciation of following my blog!

Quilt Club Alternate Colorway

Remember my post from a couple of days ago regarding the sampler blocks that I had chosen to do in the 30's prints, and I spoke of always doing an alternate colorway? Well, here are the alternate colorway blocks I am doing this year. This is the first time I have made anything using Asain prints. This is a line from Northcott called "My Asian Garden - Cherry Blossom".
I fell head over the pinks in this line and I liked how subtle the prints are, and how well they blend together.

I didn't mention the other day, but this quilt club starts in September, so thats why we just got done with month/block 6.

Quilt Shop Quilt Club Blocks

These are the first six blocks from my local quilt shop quilt club. We meet once a month, and get a new block each time. At the end of the year and twelve blocks later, a sampler quilt can be made. The quilt club offers five colorways, civil war reproductions, 30's prints, floral prints, black/red/white, and batiks. This year I have chosen the colorway 30's prints. I am always a sucker for these prints!

I have been doing this club for for the past 6 years, missing only one year. I have chosen all colorways, except the batiks and the black/red/white. I have completed one set all the way through to assembly, quilting, and binding. The rest, including this year's, is on my UFO list to be done this year.

I made a pact with myself, sort of a new year's resolution, to complete a UFO, then a newer project, and alternate back and forth. This way I can get the older projects completed and still enjoy new ones and not feel guilty.
